Why Summer is the Best Time in Williamsburg

Why Summer is the Best Time in Williamsburg

Sure, we’re biased, but when it comes to great places to live, work, and play, we think Williamsburg, Va. is hard to beat. From the blazing colors of autumn to the historic gardens blooming in spring, every season in Williamsburg holds a special kind of magic. Summer, though, with its many opportunities to learn, discover, and get outside, takes the cake. We fall in love with this place all over again every time the season arrives.

Whether you’re new to the Williamsburg, Va. area or you’ve lived here for years, be sure to try our favorite ways to spend the lazy days of summer.

1. Enjoy a thrilling day at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.

Adventure awaits around every turn at Busch Gardens. Kids and adults alike can find something to enjoy at this sprawling amusement park. Imagine flying through the air at top speeds, catching a musical performance, and even petting a Clydesdale horse all on the same day. Consistently rated one of the most beautiful theme parks, Busch Gardens is a fun addition to any summer bucket list.

2. Step back in time in Colonial Williamsburg.

Filled with hundreds of centuries of history and unique shopping, Colonial Williamsburg is bursting with stories and places to discover. History buffs will enjoy learning about our nation’s origins from skilled reenactors or watching a live demonstration of a colonial trade. The area has also grown to include many charming boutiques, quaint coffeehouses, and delicious restaurants—all while maintaining the historic feel of the area.

3. Plan a staycation at Great Wolf Lodge.

Play all day, then stay the night at this themepark-meets-hotel. Great for families with young kids, Great Wolf Lodge will transport you to another world without ever leaving Williambsurg. Themed suites, games, and activities mean there’s never a dull moment during your stay. The main attraction, a giant indoor waterpark, can be enjoyed even on rainy summer afternoons.

4. Get a new perspective at the Go Ape Zipline.

Feel the breeze on your face as you zip through leafy canopies this summer. With crazy-impressive ziplines — some stretching as long as 600 feet — a day at Go Ape is not for the faint of heart. You can also explore other fun outdoor activities, like a ropes course, axe throwing, and a team-based Forest EscAPE game. If you’re feeling particularly daring, try Nights at Height, a treetop adventure after dark.

5. Rediscover the past in Jamestown.

As the first permanent English colony in what we now call the United States, Jamestown represents the beginnings of our country. History comes alive at the Jamestown Settlement with interactive exhibits, displays, and replicas of important sites, including a Powhatan village. You can also visit the actual site of the original settlement in Historic Jamestowne, an area managed by the National Park Service. Make a day of it and check out both!

6. Cool off at Water Country USA.

There’s no better way to spend a hot summer day than splashing around at Water Country USA. With dozens of slides, rides, and pools to explore, there’s so much fun to be found at this popular waterpark. Raft rides and giant slides, like the Colossal Curl, offer a mega thrill for older kids and adults, while themed play areas make for a perfect day for little ones.

7. Stroll at Riverwalk Landing in Yorktown.

A historic spot with modern amenities, Yorktown boasts a beautiful waterfront shopping district. The area comes to life in the summer with free outdoor concerts on weeknights and Yorktown Market Days on Saturday mornings. Come for the annual festivals and stay for the lively restaurants and the short walk to the beach.

It’s hard to pick a favorite time of year in this place we call home, but with all this to do (and more!), there’s no question summer in Williamsburg promises to be filled with fun.

Before your summer schedule fills up, don’t forget  to book your next appointment. We love hearing all about our patients’ summer adventures and swapping tips on our favorite Williamsburg spots. We can’t wait to welcome you to our beautiful office soon!
