When people think of Botox, they often associate it with ideas like having a "frozen face" or something famous people do to stay young. While a youthful look is a wonderful side effect of the Botox treatments we perform, it is not the primary reason for the treatment here at Norge Dental.
Therapeutic Botox is a manufactured injectable protein derived from botulinum toxin used to temporarily paralyze targeted muscles. Unlike cosmetic Botox, therapeutic Botox is used to treat medical conditions involving muscle overactivity, such as TMJ disorders, bruxism, and facial pain.
With Botox, we can target the forehead muscles and temporal region to reduce headaches caused by grinding and clenching. Some patients don't even realize they actually grind their teeth, but it has been a proven cause of tension headaches and migraines. We can also accurately target the masseter muscle—the large muscle you feel when you grit your teeth—thereby reducing grinding (bruxism) and jaw tension. In some cases, this may also soften the appearance of a prominent jawline. Additionally, reducing excessive muscle tension may support improved oral function and comfort, and can complement restorative dental treatments such as crowns and implants.

At Norge Dental Center, Dr. Amber Hogan and Dr. Sarah Stulen received their education and certification in botulinum toxin and dermal fillers from the American Academy of Facial Esthetics and maintain active membership in the organization. The AAFE is a leader in the use of Botox and dermal fillers, and travels globally teaching healthcare professionals how to properly apply this treatment to their patients.
If you are interested in Botox treatments, you will be scheduled for an appointment with either Dr. Hogan or Dr. Stulen. During this appointment, they will conduct an individualized exam to assess your concerns and determine the areas you are interested in treating.
Depending on your health history and expectations, treatment can and may be administered the same day. The procedure is minimally invasive and requires little downtime. Patients can return to work after the procedure, but are asked to refrain from exercising and excessive sweating for a short period following the treatment.
